This Century, we will tire of catastrophe and of people who catastrophise. It’s happening already. Bushfires. Communicable disease. Hailstorms. Floods. And, that’s just Australia.
Some people ask: What if this is as good as it gets?
In times of crisis, we look for leadership to assure unity and focus, to strengthen our resolve and resilience. Churchill, Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Mandela, and Gandhi help immortalise views of strong, individual leadership. We don’t have a modern unifier in any one person.
So, I ask: What if it’s up to us in This Century?
If it is to be it is up to me (and you and us). And, the modern unifier is the desire to sustain life on this planet. The trends – with people at the centre of design – are not good.
Life-centred design considers the interdependencies of our human actions on all forms of life: our actions ripple through the natural world, our social systems and the design of the many systems and technologies we use daily.
Life-centred design requires a new focus on value, on viability (the science of life) and on a lean, agile system of leadership that we are all a part of. More to come.
