29. Pay It Forward

John Richard Hodge

John Richard Hodge

When a major life event strikes, as it did with the death of my father two weeks ago today, there’s much to be done in response. Working through emotions to create an event where we said our farewells. Now, all done, respect remains.

Now, we have time to sit and *be*.

Now, we sit reflecting on our own mortality. Reflecting also on the many responses to my last post. Every one, heartfelt. So many, unanswered.

Now, I sit in gratitude. To every one of you who spared a thought and a kind word for me, for our family loss and for the future – I thank you. My family and I are humbled by your touch.

 … …

So now what’s it to be, Richard?

From now, I pay it forward. Should I live another 25 years as my father did, I would love to look back and see a world as kind as he, honest and mindful of our impact on others.

A world where we work together artfully to make things happen in ways better for all.

Yesterday, I gave a webinar – Value Governing Values – that starts where we all learn our first values in life, with our parents. It finishes with thoughts on how 6 interlocking values work together artfully to shape systemic change in our lives and our enterprises.
