What Leaders Count. To redress 200-years of energy recession, please, can we stop omitting measures inconvenient to our story?

In celebrating a life, we value a person in their being, their giving and the difference they made to people and the planet.

We laud a person generous with their time, energy and money. A person imperfect yet doing their best in their context. Valued not by numbers, not by beginnings and endings, but by how they made the ongoing story of life on Earth a little better most days.

Imagine your next report as an obituary on the last accounting period. Telling us who you’ve been (ethics), what you’ve given *and taken from* the planet, and the difference (+/-) you’ve made to the people and things you give a damn about.

Imagine that level of human kindness and planetary honesty. Imagine the vulnerability.

Imagine projecting a sense of well-being. Affirmation of the difference made, not targets missed.

Imagine the reaction. Some will pry for weakness. Most will feel value, relevance and truth building trust.

If we present numbers alone, people will feed only on our numbers.

What a leader counts, counts.

Our challenge is not to wait till death to count true value. The planet and its people will thank us.
